We have had members earn their black belts, children become NSW State Champions and our more experienced players gain bronze and gold medals in the Australian Judo Championships. We have had visiting Japanese judo player, invited judo clubs for combined training and we have been invited to other judo clubs in other states. We have also had themed Sumo nights with very interesting history and knowledge provided.

With our memberships numbers growing every term we canvas 50 students on two separate mat areas in two separate rooms. The main hall is our general class with the secondary room being for more specific lessons.

Bushido Judo Club - Shoalhaven

Great News!! With the continued influx of new students becoming members at Bushido Judo Club - Shoalhaven, we now offer two classes being run at the same time in two seperate rooms at the Shoalhaven Community Centre (thank you to the suport of the Shoalhaven Community Centre Management). One class is for seniors and experienced players the other is for our beginners and juniors.

Splitting the class up into two has given the coaches and students a far more engaging and exciting opportunity to experience a more player-centred class. Coaches have the opportunity to focus more on smaller groups which will focus more on the individuals needs.

The two rooms have been a striking success and has left everyone excited and keen to further enjoy their judo experience.

Please note, training will be held on Tuesday night only.

Bushido Judo Club Family - LighterOn our first training session back for this year we have had a blockbuster night with many eager children ready and willing to learn judo while having a great time. It was great to see everyone back from the holiday break and a few new members.  It looks as though the word is getting out about how enjoyable judo is at Bushido Judo Club - Shoalhaven. We are family focused and player-centred which has shown through with retaining and building on our bumper last year. The enthusiasm for judo from the children of our local region demonstrates that the foundations of a dedicated coaching staff has been the right recipe to enforce an enjoyable and condusive family sporting environment at a more than reasonable price.

Bushido - Shoalhaven club yearly competition - November 2014

Yearly comp image

Bushido Shoalhaven held the yearly club competition with some outstanding judo on display. A friendly and relaxed atmosphere surrounded the mat with children and parents watching each match with interest.
The obvious stand out for the night was the level of skill displayed by each player. Techniques were being used non-stop which was an absolute delight to see. The future of all competitors involved certainly looks bright. It must be mentioned that the competition ran like clockwork thanks to Bruce, Daniel, Shekea and Ken.
Well done members and thank you to the parents that sat and enjoyed the night’s matches.
Results
1st Harry Sullivan and 2nd Toby Hokin: A tough match but Harry’s experience and technique certainly answered Toby’s enthusiasm and power.
1st Johnny Lamb and 2nd Sena Fagan: A whirlwind of a match that could go either way. In the end they were just as happy sitting off the mat clapping each match.
1st Sophia Fagan and 2nd Lily Bradley: Lily played impeccably and lead half way through the match until Sophia slipped her hip in twice for two clean Yukos. Well done girls!
1st Darcy Entwistle and 2nd Harrison Bronzino: Darcy and Harrison had their first competition tonight and both played well. Unfortunately Harrison became caught in a hold down as Darcy moved in quickly on the ground. It would had been nice to see them play more stand up judo.
1st Harry Sullivan and 2nd Tom Bradley: It doesn’t help when you are training partners and friends, but Harry and Tom had a good go, though I know Tom could do much better on a good day. Good effort guys!
1st Finn Lewis and 2nd Ryan Lewis: Finn played amazing judo 2 weeks ago at the Country Championships, and although Finn won tonight, Ryan’s judo was incredible to watch. Ryan’s ground work and his attacking judo was pure joy to watch considering he is only 6 year old.
1st Taylor Fagan and 2nd Jaylen Thompson: Once again we have a matchup of two good training partners which always make the bout difficult. Jaylen held out as long as he could until Taylor’s strength and technique took advantage. Tough match guys, well done.
1st Sam Fergusson and 2nd Zach Fergusson: The Fergusson brothers know how each other play every inch of the way but that did not stop an incredibly entertaining match. With 5 seconds to go Zach lost to Sam. Their determination should give them great strength looking towards the future.
1st Aimee Lamb and 2nd Archie Strode: Archie has only been coming to judo for a short time but boy did he give it a go. This match went to golden score where Aimee won with a wazari. Great effort both players!
1st Abigail Sullivan and 2nd Sophia Fagan: Abigail played very well to control Sophie’s dangerous hip throw to win, but it must be mentioned that Sophia generated the uncanny ability to escape from three hold downs which is certainly no easy task. Well done girls.
1st Lily Brodie and 1st Sarah Brodie: That is not a typo. These two sisters were so evenly matched it would be impossible to award the win to one and not the other. Lily and Sarah have taken to judo like a duck to water. Outstanding efforts girls.

Bushido students excel at competition - October 2014

Bushido Judo Club members competed in the State Country Judo Championships and the South Coast Open Judo Championships which were held at the Bomaderry Basketball Centre. Country Comp 2014 - 2This was the last time that these tournaments will be held at the Bomaderry Basketball Centre as the council is pulling down the building. For 17 years Bushido Judo Club has been organising these competitions and as a result brought financial benefit into the local community, as well as athletes from Interstate, Europe and Asia and our local players. The tournaments have built up a tremendous amount of interest everywhere, unfortunately there is no where big enough to hold these tournaments in the Shoalhaven area, which stops our children from getting that much needed experience in the sport.Tournament warm up Even though our senior members did not attend this tournament because of other commitments the Junior members from Bushido Judo Club were fantastic in gaining 24 placings some just competing for the first time in open judo tournaments.
